Diversity and Inclusivity

The Rose City Yarn Crawl is a collective of female shop-owners in the greater Portland Metro area. We see our customers and attendees as a community of crafters and together we are on a journey to actively promote opportunities for marginalized people and to become more diverse and inclusive both in our individual businesses and as a city-wide event.

Acknowledging the uniqueness of each individual, we seek to cultivate an environment that encourages freedom of expression. We embrace and encourage diversity in many forms and are committed to inclusivity among our community members. We encourage all persons who participate in the crawl to demonstrate civility and respect for the dignity of others.

All of our online spaces (website, Ravelry group, Instagram account and Facebook page) are welcoming places of inclusivity. We will moderate our online spaces to do our best to keep them a safe and welcoming place to be. We welcome and respect people who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQIA, all genders and sexualities, members of all religions, and all those with disabilities, both visible and invisible.

We define Diversity and Inclusivity as follows:

Diversity is the variety of intersecting identities that make individuals unique, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, socio-economic status, age, country of origin, veteran status, abilities, spirituality, religious beliefs, and political beliefs. Diversity recognizes perspectives and experiences and the uniqueness of individuals, populations, and groups.

Inclusivity is the conscious and deliberate decision to continuously work towards the creation of an accepting and nurturing climate where similarities and differences are respected, supported, and valued by ensuring the active participation of the entire community.
